An idyllic spot graced with clean environs and enveloped in abundance of serenity and charm, Royal Springs Golf Course has become a great tourist attraction in Kashmir. Located in the foothills of Zabarwan mountains and flanked by glorious Dal Lake, this golf course is spread over an area of 300 acres boasting of wonderful landscape, thus enthralling the players of international repute. Designed by world famous golf architect, Robert Trent Jones II, who has designed more than 500 golf courses all over the world, Royal Springs golf Course is equipped with 18 hole and par 72 golf offering a challenge to all level of players who delightfully compete in the exotic environs.
The Royal Springs Golf Course is regarded as one of the most picturesque golf courses in Asia, commissioned in 2001. It has modern amenities like motorised golf carts etc and for its quality facilities is considered as No.1 golf course of India by Golf Digest. Clubs are available for hire and buggies are mandatory as at this altitude it is not advisable to walk the course unless you have been playing high altitude courses. It is open to non-members also and hosts golf tournaments at regular intervals. The first ever women’s golf tournament conducted in the Kashmir Valley was arranged here in July 2012, which attracted more than 50 woman golfers across India.
The golf course harbors a rare groove of cork oaks, planted by last Dorga ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh before 1947. The plants were imported from Europe. These and other trees escaped felling at the time of construction of the golf course. The course is called the Royal Springs because there are four water springs in the vicinity. Mughal Emperor Jehangir built an exquisite walled garden – the Chashma Shahi which overlooks the golf course and contains four of the royal springs. So, Royal Springs Golf course is calling golf enthusiasts from all over the globe to enjoy golfing at one of the most exquisite courses in the world!
